INDIVIDUAL COACHING

Most Senior Leaders reach a point in their career when they feel stuck, or need help achieving a goal that seems just out of reach.  Without help, feeling stuck or unable to create real change can result in frustration or even burnout.  Individual coaching is a partnership between the Coach and Client driven by a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires the Client to maximize personal and professional potential.  A coaching engagement uncovers mindset and behavior tools that will change the way you lead.

What is Coaching?

Coaching is a relationship which is based on you (the Client) and your expressed professional goals, interests, and objectives.  Your coach uses questions, discussion, 360 results, and psychometric results to assist you in identifying business goals and developing strategies and action plans for achievement.

The success of a coaching engagement relies entirely upon your ability and willingness to engage fully.  The client carries the responsibility for their own achievements and success. The coaching process cannot guarantee that you will take any specific action or attain any specific goals. A coach can only be helpful if you use them appropriately.

Axe & Arrow coaches do not advise, nor offer counseling, therapy or psychological treatment.

"I worked with Ingrid while navigating a significant career decision.  I felt like the proverbial deer in headlights, frozen and unable to effectively move forward. Ingrid brought her empathetic yet no-nonsense approach to my situation, helping me to effectively dismantle and organize my thoughts and feelings so that I could make my most informed decision.

Ingrid facilitated sessions that enabled me to recognize self-created barriers that were blocking my career trajectory.  She enabled me to dig deeper into my decision-making process and recognize when negative self-talk was getting in my way. Ingrid does not tell you what to do, but rather empowers you with tools to evaluate any situation, determine your course of action, and own the results.  As someone with twenty years in the C-Suite who has leveraged business coaches for not only my own professional growth but that of my organizations as well, there is no comparison. Engaging with Ingrid is an investment in your future that will pay dividends."

How it Works

HOW DOES A COACHING ENGAGEMENT WORK?
Over the course of a decided upon length of time you get one weekly coaching session. Each session runs 60 minutes in length with the exception of the initial session which runs 90 minutes. At the first session, we will spend roughly 30 minutes discussing the process and going over a coaching agreement. The rest of our time will be spent helping you define your professional goals for the engagement. Together, we will develop a plan for achieving your goals, milestones for charting your success, and techniques for overcoming obstacles along the way.

WHAT DOES A TYPICAL COACHING SESSION LOOK LIKE?

You set your own agenda and guide the coaching session based on what is important for you and the goals you wish to achieve. Some examples of agenda topics include the following:

  • Successes since the last session
  • A current workplace victory or challenge
  • Discussion about completed homework
  • Strategies you wish to explore for an upcoming negotiation/discussion
  • Subordinate, peer or boss issues you wish to discuss
  • Roleplay for an upcoming interview or tough conversation
  • Exercises to shift mindset
  • Mini teach on a needed leadership skill
  • Leadership career mapping

SCHEDULING:
All scheduling is done upfront with your coach, usually falling on the same day and time each week to maintain your commitment and consistency to the work.  Any changes to the schedule can be made using your unique scheduling link.

CONFIDENTIALITY & REPORTING:
This coaching relationship, as well as all information (documented or verbal) that the Client shares with the Coach as part of this relationship, is bound to confidentiality by the ICF Code of Ethics, but is not considered a legally confidential relationship (like in Medicine or Law). The Coach agrees not to disclose any information pertaining to the Client without the Client’s written consent.

Defining Success

HOW DO YOU MAKE THE MOST OF A COACHING ENGAGEMENT?
  • Attitude: The most important element to success is the attitude you bring to it. Coaching is an investment in you. It’s primarily up to you to make it work, and to achieve results. There are a few simple strategies and guidelines that are part of every successful coaching program. Understanding these from the start will help you get farther, faster in your coaching engagement.
  • Make Time: One of the most important strategies is making time for coaching. Many people don't appreciate this at the beginning. You only have so much time. You are a busy person with a lot of responsibility, and business isn't going to stop while you're engaged with a coach. This means you need to become very strategic in managing your time and make coaching a priority. Your scheduling team will get me into your schedule, but it’s up to you to be prepared, on time and proactive about avoiding cancellations.
  • Scheduling: We will work to schedule your appointments upfront so we can build a development plan around your schedule. I expect you to honor your commitment to appointments, show up on time and avoid last minute cancellations. Two days’ notice is required for any cancellations. It's important not just to set the intention, but also schedule the intention and then honor the intention. I strongly encourage clients to do everything they can to keep their coaching appointments.
  • Cancellation Policy: When an individual session is cancelled with less than 48 hour notice the session that week is lost.  No additional time will be added to the calendar to accommodate the lost session.
  • Accept Constructive Feedback: There are times when coaching can feel a little uncomfortable - mostly when you get 360 assessment and/or feedback. Whether or not you agree with all of the comments, it is important to understand and analyze these perceptions. Some may be outliers but if there is consensus on an issue, that's something to note. You may be emotional when you hear some of your colleague's comments; you may also be pleasantly surprised or even elated when they reflect back how they see your strengths or your future. It’s my job to help you hear it, understand it, process it and use it wisely.
  • Set Clear, Measurable Goals: Plan to come to our first session with a clear idea of how you want to use the time to grow. Based on that, we can develop goals, an action plan that includes timelines, resources and measurements of progress.
  • The Re-Cap email: After each one of our sessions, I ask that you send me an email with a recap of what we discussed. Included in this email will be any next steps identified and a clear outline of any work you plan to do before our next session.

"Working with Ingrid has by far been the most valuable experience I've had in my professional career. Not only was she intuitive enough to identify the areas of improvement that would help advance my daily work life, but the level of insight she was able to provide was immensely valuable in helping me understand what would be key for me attaining career goals!"

"I was feeling frustrated, angry and burned out.  I was fully disconnected from my professional goals.

Ingrid gave me the language and permission to find the deeper reasons behind  my thinking and  behavior. Over a period of a few weeks I experienced a huge perspective shift. I stopped feeling guilty or angry; instead I felt centered and clear. Nothing else about the situation changed except my perspective, but at the same time everything changed. And the most important part of this is that this shift was not temporary.  Six months later the way I see and respond to the challenges connected with my professional and personal life is completely different. I use the knowledge and insights I gained through my engagement with Axe & Arrow everyday and it has made a profound impact on my personal and professional relationships.

I’ve done lots of therapy and lots of work with professional coaching; none of the issues we worked on together were new to me. What was new was the thoughtful, compassionate way we approached these patterns in my thinking and how to shift them. I now understand how these patterns served me in the past and that has made it so much easier to recognize them and shift my perspective.

If you are ready for real change, choose Axe & Arrow.  You couldn't ask for a better partner."
